Leigh Shamburger-Adams, NCC, LPC
Welcome! I work with adults addressing depression, anxiety, relationships, work, gender, and sex concerns. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Psychoanalytic Candidate at Dallas Psychoanalytic Center.
I aim to create a non-judgmental therapeutic environment to freely explore your feelings, frustrations, and fears so you may gain a deeper understanding of self, feel more authentic, and make positive changes in your life.
I work with individuals, couples, and families of any sexual or affectional identity, including adults (18+) and adolescents (13-17). I am a candidate at the Dallas Psychoanalytic Institute, and have additional experience with LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, Gottman Method Couples Therapy Certification Level 1, and Janina Fisher Approach to Trauma Treatment.
It can be difficult to discuss your life struggles, relationships, gender, and sexuality. Whether you are looking for relief from depression, better coping skills for your anxiety, or better self-understanding, I hope you will reach out. Let's see if we are a good fit to work together.

Working through the painful parts of life is a necessary step toward growth; however, making that first step can be daunting. It would be my honor to explore that next step with you if you are experiencing unhappiness in relationships, problems with family members, or feel stuck or immersed in conflict. We may invest much time and money in many things but neglect our hearts. Yet, our inner life affects all of our decision-making. Therapy can help us discover our true, often overlooked selves. I want you to know that you do not have to suffer alone. I have over 12 years of experience working in grief and loss in bereavement and other major life transitions. I also have experience working with substance abuse and eating disorder recovery.

Have you found yourself engaging in similar distressing behaviors, thought patterns, or relational dynamics despite your best efforts to change? My approach aims to address your current distress as well as work with you to investigate why this suffering is taking place to begin with. I believe unwanted behaviors, emotions, and thoughts are illustrating something about your experience that has yet to be understood. Therapy provides a relationship in which you can begin to make sense of what your suffering is saying. My hope is that in working together, you can journey towards long lasting life fulfillment instead of simply coping.
There is no 'one size fits all' mentality in counseling. My approach aims to honor every person's unique life story in my treatment and therapeutic techniques. Our work together will be individualized to your distinct needs. I have training from the Dallas Psychoanalytic Center in helping people deal with long standing issues and interpersonal difficulties.
Whether your suffering is easily named or vague and mysterious, I aim to offer a safe environment where you can come to know yourself more deeply and meet your goals.
